Priority Services Register: Providing you with Extra Support with your Energy

We’re excited to announce that UK Power Networks  is now working with IE Hub to offer customers like you, an easy-to-use and supportive experience. As part of this collaboration, you can now easily share your IE Hub budget with UK Power Networks to apply for the Priority Services Register (PSR). But what exactly is the PSR, and how can it benefit you? Let’s dive in.

The Priority Services Register

The Priority Services Register (PSR) – a service designed to offer additional help during power cuts and emergencies, especially beneficial for those with medical needs, younger and older people in the household or if you have any health, mobility or communication issues.

Here are some situations where you might find the PSR particularly helpful:

– If you rely on medical equipment powered by electricity.
– If you have young children at home.
– If you’re of pensionable age or have certain health conditions.
– If a power cut would cause you significant distress or inconvenience.

Please note, that these are not the only situations where you could be eligible for support through the PSR. So, if you are unsure, we recommend that you still apply and UK Power Networks will tell you if you are eligible or not.

Energy-Saving Tips

While being part of the PSR offers added security, it’s also important to manage your energy use effectively. Here are some helpful tips to save energy and reduce your bills:

  1. Insulate Your Home: Proper insulation keeps your home warm in winter and cool in summer, reducing the need for excessive heating or cooling.
  2. Switch Off Standby: We’re all guilty of leaving the TV and kettle switched on when we’re not using them. But, many appliances use our energy even when not in use. Turning them off can save you more than you might expect.
  3. Use Energy-Efficient Lighting: LED bulbs consume less energy and last longer than traditional bulbs.
  4. Monitor Your Usage: Keep an eye on your energy usage. Smart meters can help you understand and manage your energy usage better.
  5. Wash Clothes at Lower Temperatures: Washing clothes at 30 degrees instead of higher temperatures can significantly reduce energy usage. Even better, if your washing machine has an energy-saving setting, then use this!
  6. Limit Your Dryer Usage: The most energy-efficient way of drying your clothes is outside. However, this isn’t always possible if there is a lot of bad weather outside. When you can, choose to dry your clothes on an airer to reduce your energy costs.
  7. Draught-Proof Your Home: Simple draught-proofing measures can stop unwanted heat loss.
